Archaeological Technician(s)
Davis MacIntyre & Associates Ltd. is seeking archaeological field technicians for the fall of 2025 for various projects in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. The projects may include archaeological reconnaissance, shovel testing, and formal excavation. There may be opportunities to assist with historic desktop research and reporting. Opportunities beyond fall 2025 may be available to successful applicants. Employment will be on an hourly basis.
Position
Archaeological Technician’s Duties:

Shovel test, manually excavate with a trowel, screen soils, and identify L’nuk and Historic Euro Canadian artifacts.

Assist in archaeological survey/reconnaissance.

May be tasked with conducting historic research.

May contribute to archaeological impact assessment reports.

Key Qualifications:
-
Successful candidates must demonstrate a willingness to travel (including overnight stays) throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, Monday to Friday, and to efficiently complete physically demanding work outdoors in all weather during the fall months.

Ability to hike long distances in rough terrain (sometimes while carrying field equipment), as well as an ability to shovel, trowel, screen soil, and carry equipment on and off work sites.

Comfortable working outside in all weather and in the woods.

Ability to recognize and identify lithic tools and other artifacts related to the Mi’kmaq and their ancestors, as well as historic Euro-settler artifacts.

Ability to work well within a team setting and as well as independently.

Attention to detail.

A Bachelor’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a related discipline is preferred, but not strictly required.

Familiarity with archaeological mapping, GIS, or GNSS technology is considered an asset.

Previous experience is considered an asset.

Transportation to worksites is provided from Halifax/Dartmouth. In some cases, employees may provide their own transportation for which they will be reimbursed. During overnight stays, accommodations and a per diem for all meals are also provided. As a small firm, we offer a positive working environment, on-the-job training for new or specialized skills if required, and competitive wages.

Hourly Wage:​​
​
$26 to $29/hr, depending on level of prior experience
