In November 2019, Davis MacIntyre & Associates Limited was contracted to conduct a Historic Resources Overview Assessment (HRIA) as part of a navigation improvement study of the access channel at Port aux Basques, Newfoundland. The assessment included a study of both land based and underwater resources within the project area.

Key Findings
Although no significant archaeological resources were encountered during the underwater benthic habitat survey video review or field survey, the developer had worked with an archaeologist early in the project approval phase. This helped the developer gain a better archaeological understanding of the resources within their study area and what to look for if archaeological resources are uncovered unexpectedly.
